Bay Area Peninsula Green Landscaping and Sustainable Practices
At Landsystems Landscapes, we realize that sustainability is a process not an event. Best practices in green landscaping design, construction and maintenance are always changing, and we're doing our best to stay on top of things.
Landsystems is proud to let you know that now we're trying to do even more to create sustainable designs and implement green practices in the construction and maintenance of our projects. For Landsystems, transparency and education are important, so we'll keep you posted on our progress!
Some of the things we're doing to become a greener landscaping design and construction company include:
- Hiring a US Green Building Council (USGBC) designer and encouraging other designers on our team to get LEED accredited. LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design,” a constantly evolving measure of how to design, build and maintain more sustainable projects.
- Participating in the Bay Area Green Business Program for San Mateo County. We've submitted our initial application and look forward to adopting more green measures by listening to experts and our own employees!
-
Installing low water drip irrigation systems for the past 20 years! This sends the water to where it's needed most – the roots of your plants and landscaping – without it evaporating in the hot sun. We also design and install gray water systems and even underwater cisterns to save and reuse the water – increasing efficiency and saving you money! Many communities will be facing mandatory water reduction in the near future, and some water agencies are already recommending decreasing water consumption by 20%. Stay ahead of the game and reduce your water consumption now - beginning with your landscaping.
-
Designing and building areas that encourage people and families to spend more time together outside – so turn off the A/C and lights and enjoy our beautiful San Francisco peninsula climate!
- Keeping organic matter onsite by grinding it up and using it as mulch. This is good for your plants, and saves lots of room at the landfill (and the fuel to get it there)
- Utilizing native plants and drought-tolerant varieties from other Mediterranean climates (like the Bay Area) – reducing the need for water and harmful pesticides and herbicides
- Installing permeable hard surfaces to reduce water runoff and pollution
- Recycling concrete for use in retaining walls and other onsite uses, saving room at the dump and reducing our customers' costs
- Designing projects to fit the natural topography of your land – reducing fill and soil disturbance and creating more natural character
